Long considered one of the primary sutras of Pure Land Buddhism, the Infinite Life Sutra, also called Buddha Speaks the Mahayana, Infinite Life, Adornment, Purity, Impartiality, and Enlightenment Sutra, is widely chanted and studied in Asia. Regrettably, without an approved English translation, the teachings in this crucial sutra and their explanations have not been available to English-speaking readers.

The eminent Pure Land master, Venerable Master Chin Kung, who has lectured over a dozen times on the sutra, once selected sixty excerpts from it, explaining, "The excerpts are the essence.
