Summary: This course is intended for training health service managers, planners, and educators to apply the principles and methods of health manpower planning. It consists of 12 half-day sessions and is for use in a group learning setting such as a workshop or seminar. Session topics are (1) Health Manpower Planning; (2) Ten Steps to Health Manpower Planning; (3) Health Manpower Situation Report on Existing Manpower and Services; (4) Future Supply of Manpower; (5) Manpower Requirements--Quantity, Quality, and Distribution; (6) Mismatches between Supply and Requirements; (7) Solving Mismatches; (8) Organizational and Management Problems; (9) Manpower Strategy and Outline Plan; (10) Detailed Health Manpower Development Plan; (11) Implementation and Monitoring; and (12) Concluding Session. An annotated bibliography cites 61 references on manpower planning activities applicable to developing countries.
